Carnivore diet
What I consider carnivore
My experience with the carnivore diet started in 2020. Unlike veganism, it is not widely seen as a completely exclusive diet. Most carnivores don’t really have a purity test.
I started by radically reducing the carbs on my plate (leaves and other veg having already been eliminated with positive resuls) to the level of just a small pile on each plate - maybe an eighth of what I had been having - just a desert spoon full of either potato, rice or pasta.
That had a dramatic effect in days. Obviously I balanced that reduction in carbohydrates with an increase in the meat and fat on my plate, but I lost a significant amount of flab, and felt amazing as quickly as a day into it.
Within a couple of months, and weight stabilising, it became silly to cook such small amounts of starch, so I went the whole hog (ho ho) and just went with meat, eggs and dairy.
But here’s the point. I didn’t reduce to simply beef and salt and water. I have spices and flavours, a small amount of tomato in the curries, and coconut milk and coconut oil.
I don’t think you’ll find many carnivores who don’t espouse the benefits of coconut oil and other coconut products. Coconut aminos is an amazing substitute for soy sauce for example!
So an awful lot of the recipes you’ll find here are what I consider to be carnivore - we’re in the 95% territory.
Burgers and sausages? Only meat, salt, pepper, and maybe a herb or two in the sausages. But a katsu curry? Yes please, as long as its clean, which usually means it has to be home made.
There are some curry pastes and powders we recommend on our Picks list, but these are rare because most have chemicals, fillers and crap in that no animal should consume, let alone humans.
If you’ve found this site and are on your carnivore journey, I hope some of these meals help you see you don’t have to go crazy. If you’re someone who needs to go full gut healing from day one before introducing things like spices, then hopefully you can do that enough to be able to add those flavours back. These recipes are for you when you are ready.
For those non-carnivores amongst you, if you’re looking at one of our bologneses or curries, you only need add the pasta or rice of your choice and you’ve got a clean, homemade meal without the ultra processed rubbish of a supermarket jar or can. Enjoy.
