Washing up stuff
Scrubbers, scourers, sponges
Part of what we want is for less chemicals to go into us and our environment. This goes for plastics as well.
We’re not at the point of having removed all synthetic fabrics from the house, which would be exceedingly difficult, and maybe foolhardy. But targetting the washing up related things seemed like it could be an easy start.
I’m talking scourers and scrubbers, those horrible yellow and green, or yellow and white sponges and scourer pads that have always felt like a necessary evil (but emphasis on the evil).
They decay so quickly, but we still use them when they look all manky and worn; all those tiny plastic fibres going into either us, or down the sink.
So reusability, durability and recyclability became the order of the day.
You’ll find our Picks, where we link to those we buy. Some are entirely biodegradable, washable, and last a reeeaaally long time. Others may still be plastic based, but are strong, sturdy and washable.
See what you think, but we don’t feel we’ve compromised when using the entirely plastic free, compostable sponge scourers. They are obviously more expensive, but so is polluting us and the planet right?
